The seventh edition of the African continent’s premier B2B Luxury Travel Trade Show, International Luxury Travel Market Africa (ILTM Africa), opened its doors today and welcomed friends – both old and new – from around the globe.
Rashid Toefy, Deputy Director- General: at Western Cape Government Department of Economic Development and Tourism welcomed all attendees with an address entitled “Africa: Open for business”.
After that, it was time for networking, networking and more networking as the pre-approved scheduled appointment sessions and one-on-one meetings started rolling out, punctuated only by a sumptuous, superfood-inspired lunch and the music of a lovely Marimba band at Kirstenbosch’s Moyo restaurant.

Downtime included more casual face-to-face meetings and an opportunity to explore Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. With 88% brand new participants to ILTM Africa and 49% new to the ILTM portfolio, there has been non-stop action across the exhibition. Nearly 3000 pre-scheduled meetings are now underway, as Buyers and Exhibitors connect to bring their clientele the best of Africa.
To cap off the first evening, The Vineyard Hotel will host an opulent cocktail evening in the lush city suburb of Newlands. Contemporary and classy, one of Cape Town’s iconic properties is the ideal setting for guests to connect in a casual atmosphere with colleagues and the best of the travel industry.

Day 2 is almost all-business, with pre-scheduled appointments rolling out from 09:30, with a lunch break at the pristine Shimmy Beach Club, the only break in the luxury business wheelings and dealings.
Megan Oberholzer, Portfolio General Manager: Travel, Tourism & Sports at Reed Exhibitions says that ITLM Africa 2019 is already indicating that Africa is primed for luxury tourism business. “We’ve already seen great synergies growing from the first day of meetings – and we’re only just getting started,” she says. “The world is waking up to the fact that Africa is a genuine luxury travel contender, and we’re delighted to be driving that process here at #ILTMA”.
